The Brain, Huffer

When: Mon., Aug. 10, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $6
Toronto punks The Brain bury frantic, hooky songs in a cloud of distortion, which complements the psych-rock off-ramps their guitar leads take. The Brain finds its comfort zone where Fucked Up’s classic rock-informed punk meets Ty Segall’s heavy psych hollers and The Mummies’ budget-rock sleaze. This year’s Welcome to My Mind demo is a lo-fi blitz, but its attitude is crystal clear if the production isn’t. Huffer, a new Raleigh band featuring members of Pie Face Girls and Future Crimes, makes its debut. —Bryan C. Reed
