THE "DUDE ABIDES" BIG LEBOWSKI MOVIE PARTY
SATURDAY, AUG. 15, RALEIGH
THE NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF ART—What can one say about The Big Lebowski that hasn't been said a million times in a million places? Only that it captured the zeitgeist of '90s slacker ennui in a sublimely ridiculous way and that its characters (for real, John Goodman's Walter Sobchak is fucking brilliant), iconic quips ("That rug really tied the room together") and bizarrely beautiful dream sequence still stand up nearly two decades later—on multiple viewings, preferably with a joint and a White Russian in hand. Sadly, only one of those will be available at this NCMA party and screening, but it does include a costume contest, food trucks and Wii bowling. 6:30 p.m. (9 p.m. screening), $5 (free for museum members), 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, 919-839-6262,
