The 99%, Brittany

When: Thu., July 2, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
For squirrely voiced singer-songwriter Clifford Cunningham, the nom de plume The 99% fits his self-recorded politically conscious protest songs. They concern the Arab Spring, colonialist expatriates living in South America and the plight of undocumented migrant workers (sung in perfect Spanish, no less). The moniker also nods toward Cunningham’s basic folk songs, which trade in eminently relatable stuff—waxy nostalgia, lost loves and the like. —Patrick Wall
