Thao & Mirah, The Most of All, These United States

When: Fri., June 18, 8:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $10 in advance or $12 at door

While both Thao and Mirah currently have their hearts (and personal belongings) in San Francisco, their music fits in perfectly with the Olympia, Wash., music scene that their record labels (Kill Rock Stars and K Records, respectively) call home. Their heady, infectious tunes invoke a plainspoken sensuality that's simultaneously precocious and mature. They take different tacks to that end—Thao (the newer kid on the block) is more raucous and rambunctious, while Mirah (the wily veteran) presents a more measured approach. But when Thao and Mirah share the stage, reinventing each other's songs, they complement each other perfectly. These United States open. —David Raposa
