Telekinesis, Say Hi, First Person Plural (Back Room)

When: Sun., Oct. 18, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $13-$15
Michael Benjamin Lerner is a Merge-signed, Pacific Northwest-based songwriter who coasted for a few years on convicted riffs and a swell demeanor. His first two albums brimmed with power pop hooks, performed with pep and ease. Since 2013’s Dormarion, Telekinesis records have mostly moved on from guitar. On this year’s Ad Infinitum, his voice often wafts in like a warm breeze defrosting his analog synths. Even with the changed palette, Lerner keeps on writing pleasant songs, untroubled by cryptic metaphor or wild exploration. —Jeff Klingman
