Re: “Moogfest and The Art of Cool Both Asked Durham for Cash. How the City Responded Says a Lot About its Future.

@Dave Wofford... Nobody goes to downtown Durham anymore, it's too crowded.

Kudos to Cicely Mitchell for pretty much single handedly creating the art of cool out of nothing and building the local jazz scene. With or without city support its amazing.

Re: “Ani DiFranco Cancels Festival for the Eno Appearance, Citing HB 2 and Leaving the Eno in a Tight Spot

Living your values. Not an easy thing to do. I applaud Ms DiFranco for not taking the soft, easy, middle route.

It took 9 years after divestment for Apartheid to crumble. Yet the same with Cuba over nearly a half century caused calcification. When to engage or disengage is tricky, I guess.

I doubt local Eno supporters will avoid the event without her as a headliner. And additional negative press can't be bad. I'm inclined to think that a constant and never ending daily trickle of sh*t will be essential to bringing about the needed correction. And half the state supports this. Get ready for a long slog. Apathy has consequences.

Re: “This Week in the Carolina Comeback: Unemployment Shoots Up All Over the State

Impossible to tell whether this is good or bad without labor participation rates which have "mysteriously" dropped as recently as end of 2014. If discouraged workers are back looking for work but just haven't found it yet this is a good thing, right?

Also, did we redefine the verb "shoot", or is Indyweek opting for clickbait titles, which are ever so hipster right now?

Re: “When work is done by robots, what will happen to workers?

Seems like a post capital economy is coming. I don't see a terrible urgency for people alive now. I doubt we're capable to come up with solutions; too much will be in flux. It's good to talk ideas though. I wonder what will fall first - capital based economy, or large nations. Perhaps we'll see the return of small city-states.
