Teacher of the Year Film Night with NC Love Army, Monsonia, DJ Suggadelic

When: Fri., Jan. 31, 7:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $5

Three teachers at Raleigh's Leesville Road High School have made Teacher of the Year, a documentary that aspires to show what it's like to teach when too many political cooks fight over who spoils the broth. Filmmakers Rob Phillips and Jason Korreck focus on social studies teacher Angie Scioli, who was Wake County's First Year Teacher of the Year in 1994 and Leesville's best in 1999. Scioli navigates many factions inside and outside of the school while contemplating what makes a good teacher. The political anthem-makers of The NC Music Love Army join galvanized post-rock trio Monsonia, and Erik Sugg, working as DJ Suggadelic, spins records. (See page 25 for more on Sugg.) The filmmakers talk about their project at this all-ages show, too. —Chris Vitiello
