Re: “Why Can’t North Carolina Let Go of the Lost Cause?

I agree with Bob Vasile's point. Last year, when this controversy fired up, we were in Providence RI renting a car. I chatted with a gentlemen in the car rental agency, and this subject came up. His solution was similar, and applied to statues of known entities ... state the facts - both good and bad about the person. Andrew Jackson's statue at the old NC State Capitol would have pretty putrid facts stated about his life's accomplishments (Trail of Tears, for one). No one has asked that his be removed yet, btw.

Re: “Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis Film, Miles Ahead, Isn’t a Real Biopic—It’s Something Better

"Miles Ahead"... "opening Friday".... where? I'm having a tough time finding film times/locations on www.indyweek.com now. The site for the film itself just has a Wilmington NC showing location. Sigh....

Re: “Energy companies Duke, Progress lumber toward merger

"The deal would create the nation's largest utility company, with operations stretching from Indiana to Florida, including a massive presence in North and South Carolina, where the two have competed for nearly a century."

Gee, I thought electric utility deregulation happened much more recently than 1913!

A deer overpopulation solution, from the NY Times, no less:

Re: “Deer hunt

I agree with Wayne. David, you would much better serve the readers of the Independent by mixing your "interloper's impressions" with some useful facts about wildlife in NC. The NC Wildlife Commission has much of such information on their website, for instance:

Re: “Greenbridge: A new chapter in a tense history

"Months later, McDonough invited Toben to Iceland for a fishing trip. "

I hope they sailed there (carbon footprint).

Re: “Plot of land

Nice, John. Sounds like the kind of day-to-day revelations my wife is getting from our first garden together, this year.

BTW, we call them 'lightning bugs', not 'fireflies' in NC.
