In an Indy review of a 2007 Tama Hochbaum show, Amy White notes the underlying current of unease, writing, "That tension ... seems to fuel this show, framing the idea of family as a wily alchemy, a chaotic mix of love, fate, genetics and chance." In her new show, called Just for the Ride and opening tonight at Carrboro's Nested Gallery, however, Hochbaum offers something rather more straightforward: photos of the midways of the North Carolina State Fair and similar amusement venues in New York. Tonight's reception runs from 6–9 p.m. —Sarah Ewald
