Re: “Why does the right wing worship Ayn Rand?

@Patrick- Lets not mix books like "On the Origin of the Species" by: Charles Darwin in with Ayn Rand, Karl Marx or Mao Zedong. Those books were just expressions of personal ideology with no basis in objective facts whatsoever. That is not a criticism of those books, but I'm just pointing out the truth about them. Charles Darwin, on the other hand, was a scientist. You are welcome to criticize his work on a scientific basis, but you can't just through science into the same box that you throw political ideology into.

@everyone- Why are we even talking about Jesus? I understand that the column attacked Conservative Christians, but lets get this straight. Jesus didn't really have any political ideology. Some of the things he preached, like helping the poor, could be categorized as Liberal. Other things he preached like "you can't get divorced" would be a Conservative issue. But the Bible was written by a bunch of different people decades after Jesus allegedly died. The Bible is so vague, so contradictory and so incoherent that really anyone can cherry-pick any passage they like to justify their ideology. Its just a book folks. Leave it out of the debate.

Re: “Why does the right wing worship Ayn Rand?

Mr. Crowther, I am an independent voter and I lean to the left. I am no fan of Ayn Rand, and I particularly hate right-wing scumbags like Rush Limbaugh, Paul Ryan, etc. Having said that though, I was felt your article was particurally tasteless. I rarely even read the so-called "Independent" anymore, because it is little more than a mouth-piece for the Democrats. I find it disgraceful that any publication dares to call itself "news" (whether it leans Right or Left) when it has virtually NO objectivity contained within its pages. Even if I hypothetically agreed with everything you said in your column, I cannot in good faith, condone your writing. I'm tired of the absolute lack of journalistic integrity within both Conservative and Liberal media circles. Columns shouldn't simply be places for people to rant and rave like lunatics on a street corner. Your article could have been written by any high-school student on their facebook page. If I wanted to read that kind garbage, I would have searched the internet. I expect better from a so-called newspaper. Shame on you and the Independent for your ridiculous article. Grow up buddy.
