Susan Laughter Meyers and Elizabeth Swann

When: Thu., April 10, 7 p.m. 2014
April is National Poetry Month, and if your passion for poesy isn't slaked after reading the INDY's 2014 Poetry Contest winners in this issue, here's an evening of oration to keep the measures flowing. Susan Laughter Meyers is the author of My Dear, Dear Stagger Grass, which was a finalist for several reputable awards before winning the 2012 Cider Press Review Editors Prize. Elizabeth Swann penned the chapbook Port Desire and has been a finalist for the Southern Poetry Review's Guy Owens Prize, among others. Both poets write verse that is accessible, emotional and eloquent in ways that modern poetry is not always known to be. Join them an hour before the reading for a casual get-together at Foster's Market next door and sign up for the open mike that follows the reading. —Brian Howe
