Re: “Why does the right wing worship Ayn Rand?

Jane in Spain has written so eloquently I hardly feel I need add anything.

But of course I will :)

It's amusing, yes, to write this way, but hardly illuminating. By 'this way', I mean Crowther's idea that if a man says that a writer has inspired him, he is somehow transformed into a thoughtless cult follower. Rand herself illustrates this: she was taken with some expressions of Nietsche, yes, but was hardly a devotee of his philosophy (if it can be called that) - she took pains to distance herself from his thinking. But Crowther is either unaware of this or chooses to ignore it, as it makes for a much less satisfying Roasting. So be it; a columnist strives for pithiness rather than scholarliness.

I loved the passage on Newt, but any sentence that contains the phrase 'runs faster than Dom DeLuise' is guaranteed to make me smile. For this I can forgive much :)
