Suppressive Fire, Sonic Pulse, American Empire

When: Thu., Aug. 20, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
Boston’s Sonic Pulse promises a lighthearted take on classic thrash and power metal. On last year’s solid Adventure Metal, the result lands between Municipal Waste’s mosh-ready thrash revival and 3 Inches of Blood’s NWOBHM resurrection. “Defenders of the Good Times,” for instance, depicts an epic party as a war against an invasion of alien buzzkills. “We’ve got the guts/We’ve got the glory/To forever recapture the freedom to party!,” they sing. Sonic Pulse will party on between Raleigh crossover crew Suppressive Fire and Durham’s American Empire. —Bryan C. Reed
