Sunday Sites on a Friday

When: Fri., Aug. 4, 7 p.m. 2017
Price: Free

For more than a year now, the choreographer, photographer, and performance artist Stephanie Leathers has been investigating the rapid changes that development has imposed on the civic landscape through Sunday SITES, a series of weekend-afternoon performances in construction sites and public spaces across downtown Durham and surrounding communities. While her installation, slit, is on display during Pleiades Gallery's social-justice-themed Truth to Power 5 exhibition, Leathers and musician Tom Rau will literally show the audience the ropes—lengths of cordage that have physically and metaphorically connected Leathers to various performance sites over the past year. Then they'll take their interactive performance outside the gallery to extend their connective process into the surrounding Five Points neighborhood. —Byron Woods
