Raleigh
Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick
Walnut Creek Amphitheatre—Journey wasn't much before Steve Perry's arrival, and the band's not much without him. Journey's now led by Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, who guitarist Neal Schon spotted on YouTube doing Journey covers. He's featured on the new double album, Revelation, singing 11 re-recorded classics and 11 originals, completely redefining the parameters of lame. Heart hasn't been relevant or the least bit interesting since Farrah's feathered shag was stylish. Only Cheap Trick make an argument against euthanizing late '70s hitmakers, proving on 2006's fine Rockford that there's still juice in the tank that's long pumped-up power pop and candied hard rock. Pay $23.50-$125 for a 7 p.m. start. —Chris Parker

Chapel Hill
The Flat Tires, The Dry Heathens
Local 506—Bring a human shield if you step into the ring with these hard-punching combos. Charlotte's Flat Tires rolls with a loose-limbed hellbilly bounce behind the crackling whine of V8-powered guitar crunch. Think of the Supersuckers with a similar countrified tilt. Hipsters will appreciate their ode to the cause and/or solution of all life's problems, "PBR," which asks, "Alcohol, what would I do without you?" Durham's The Dry Heathens features a muscular, distortion-drenched attack less about throttle than contoured roar. The sinewy hooks leave a sizeable sonic footprint. Pay $7 at 9 p.m. With Trouble Walkers. —Chris Parker
