Chapel Hill
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Clang Quartet
Nightlight—Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti excavates the kitschiest pop sounds of Brian Wilson and repackages them as nauseatingly multicolored, lo-fi pastiche, somewhat like an Animal Collective biased toward decadent L.A. glitz rather than earthy tribalism. Paralleling Pink's sound, this bill is absurdly diverse: Clang Quartet sculpts ecstatic distortion for Christ; Ami Dang blends North Indian classical music (sitar and all) into droning electronics; Chairlift plays loping, darkening indie rock; Boyzone obliterates itself with contact mikes and bastard electronics; Unicornucopia's religion-tinged performance art changes too often to be pinned down. Will there be puppets? Broken glass? Face paint? Spiritual awakenings? Find out at 8 p.m. —Brian Howe

Chapel Hill
David Lee & His Mercenaries
Local 506—David Lee took over for Joe Buck (part of Hank Williams III's posse) and was replaced in May by Duane Denison (of the Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk) as lead guitarist for Th' Legendary Shack Shakers. Considering the pedigree, expectations run high. Filling in for Buck took big feet, and Denison's skills are estimable. Lee, up from Charleston, S.C., for this one, describes his music as a cross between Charlie Feathers and Mastodon, so we'll assume he's picking up where the Shakers left off. Pay $8 for a 9:30 p.m. start with The Tremors. —Chris Parker
