Summer Kinard

When: Sun., June 9, 3:30-7 p.m. 2013

Perhaps there should be more book launches in brewpubs. That seems to be the thinking of Summer Kinard, a Durham resident, holder of a master's of divinity degree from Duke, home-school teacher, opera singer— and now a first-time novelist. Her book, Can't Buy Me Love, is set among the culture of freeganism in places that bear a strong resemblance to Durham locales. This book is published by Light Messages Publishing, a young outfit in Durham that specializes in "emerging and experienced authors." The launch party will feature live music, an author's reading and door prizes. —David Fellerath
