Re: “Holden vs. Butch: Collision of cultures at UNC

A few other points Thad: how about some empirical evidence or at least some anecdotal evidence on the the damage to UNC 's academic reputation in the year 2011(not from 1961) directly related to the football team and Butch Davis.Davis failed to have discipline on his team, but the academic problems were endemic and the anti-football crowd is making football the scapegoat.

While you are searching for this evidence, look for some regarding the University of Michigan from the Rich Rod era. Is our reputation so ephemeral that we can't seek in football what we seek in every other sport? Could there just be some institutional insecurity that explains theobsession with reputation?

Re: “Holden vs. Butch: Collision of cultures at UNC

Success, dignity, ACC Championships, BCS Championships, and National Championships for the football team-just like the women's soccer team, women's crew, women's Field Hockey team, women's golf team, women's swim team, and the women's lacrosse team, etc.- all paid for by the football program, at least up until now.
And Thad be careful what you say in the next column, lest the standards you discuss also get applied to bar some future BB recruit that heretofore has been allowed to matriculate.
