Stories Happen in Forests

When: Thu., July 27, 6 p.m. 2017
Price: $10 donation

The words are from the Turkish playwright Mehmet Murat Ildan: "If you go to a desert, you will hear this mysterious voice: 'Be wise, protect your forests!'" When we lose a forest due to overdevelopment or industrial logging, all that's left are the stories it contained. In this benefit for the Dogwood Alliance, an Asheville-based environmental activism group devoted to protecting the wildernesses of the South, ten speakers, including Carrboro poet laureate Gary Phillips, T.C. Muhammad from the Hip Hop Caucus, forestry professor Thomas Easley, and self-styled bear aficionado Margaux Escutin, gather to tell true, personal stories of lives in the woods that are becoming increasingly threatened. —Byron Woods
