This made-and-set-in-Canada movie is quaint and modest, just like the country itself. Based on a true story, it stars James Cromwell as a proud, 80-something farmer and builder who decides to build a smaller home on his land, mostly to accommodate his wife (Genevieve Bujold), who is succumbing to Alzheimer's. Although this movie doesn't reach Amour-type levels of unflinching, geriatric sorrow, writer-director Michael McGowan does make a film that's sentimental without being mawkish and earnest without being cheesy. Cromwell and Bujold make sure that Still Mine still stays a respectable, compassionate study of old people (still) in love.
