Pearls Before Swine

Stephan Pastis

When: Mon., Oct. 8, 7:30 p.m. 2012

Newspaper comics aren't what they once were, but it's still encouraging to see how creators such as Stephan Pastis still turn out hilarious and intelligent work daily—and enjoy a large and loyal following as well. Pastis is the man behind Pearls Before Swine, the award-winning daily strip that chronicles the interactions of a variety of self-absorbed animals (and occasionally Pastis himself) who range from the extremely articulate to the hilariously nasty Rat.

The new collection (deep breath), Pearls Freaks the #*%# Out: A (Freaky) Pearls Before Swine Treasury, includes not only a wide variety of strips but also commentary from Pastis and fan reactions to certain strips. Copies purchased at this 7:30 p.m. signing also will include an original Pastis drawing. For more on Pastis, including his thoughts on the state of comic strips, check out our interview on Indy Week's Artery blog. —Zack Smith
