Steep Canyon Rangers

When: Fri., June 10, 6 p.m. 2011
Price: Free

Here's a second chance for those who didn't score a ticket to Steep Canyon's sold-out concert with Steve Martin at the DPAC a couple weeks ago. OK, so the downside is that the more famous comedian and banjo player won't be along for the ride at this "Back Porch Music on the Lawn" show. The upside is that the Rangers were a first-class bluegrass band long before Martin handpicked them to be his musical touring partners; they remain well worth hearing on their own. And hey, it's free. Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and a picnic dinner to the wide-open space in the middle of the old tobacco warehouses for one of the best bookings in this exemplary summer music series. The music starts at 6 p.m. —Peter Blackstock
