Starring North Carolina!

When: Nov. 15-Sept. 5 2015
Price: $6-$10

NORTH CAROLINA MUSEUM OF HISTORY—North Carolina has played an important role in many major motion pictures. Its western mountains can be seen in Dirty Dancing and The Hunger Games, its eastern coasts in Nights in Rodanthe and David Lynch's Blue Velvet, shot in Wilmington. And of course, there was Bull Durham, filmed at the old Durham Athletic Park. The N.C. Museum of History partners with the N.C. Film Office for this new yearlong exhibition about our state's century in the movie industry, with about 8,000 square feet of props, costumes, images, clips and interactive exhibits on display until Sept. 6. You can see onscreen artifacts from Iron Man 3, which did some shooting at Cary's Epic Games; 1990's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where New York rooftops were simulated in Wilmington; and the #26 Wonder Bread car from Will Ferrell hit Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, where Concord's Charlotte Motor Speedway became the Texas Motor Speedway. It's an entertaining, informative bonanza for movie geeks, local history buffs and pop culture fans alike. A film series runs alongside the exhibit; see the museum's website for details. 9 a.m.–5 p.m., $6–$10, 5 E. Edenton St., 919-807-7850, —Allison Hussey
