Spring Bloom | Church of Photography | Arts | Indy Week
This is a past event.
When: April 22-June 12 2015

church of photography—For Jean-Christian Rostagni, photography is a religion. He combines fine art and photojournalism in the "Church of Photography," his own playful polytheist denomination offering daily worship of the capturing lens. Rostagni was the subject of Rodrigo Dorfman's feature-length documentary, Monsieur Contraste, as well as a more recent short, Monsieur Contraste is Moving On Up. That film documents the itinerant Church of Photography's move to its new downtown Durham sanctuary at Through This Lens, and this show is its grand reopening. Along with a curated exhibit of Rostagni's photos, expect an Alley 26 punch bowl, Rose's Meats and Sweets charcuterie and pastry, and Wine Authority libations, including a particular red produced near Rostagni's birthplace in the Rhône Valley. Church is in session through June 13. 6–9 p.m., free, 303 E. Chapel Hill St., Durham, 919-687-0250, www.churchofphotography.com. —Brian Howe
