Spring Awakening

When: Fri., March 11, 8 p.m. and Sat., March 12, 2 & 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $20-53

I saw and quite enjoyed the production of Spring Awakening last year at DPAC, though I admit I was at a very high part of the theater where everything seemed a mite vertical. But the mod take on horny German teenagers is an amusing, old-fashioned piece of anti-authoritarian rock opera, in many ways a classic tale ... though you're hardly likely to hear "Totally F***ed" in a "Best of Broadway" cabaret show. It will be an interesting thing to see how this plays on the Progress Energy Center stage, or if still more teenagers will drag their parents out after realizing that pretty girl from Glee used to be the lead in this. Performances are Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m.; tickets range from $20 to $53. —Zack Smith
