Spirit Family Reunion

When: Sat., July 3, 6 p.m. 2010

Acoustic guitar chugs forward and songs sway back and forth, elated and slightly tipsy, as if after last call. Banjo, accordion, fiddle and bass flow in and out with the casualness of a hootenanny. Spirit Family Reunion, a quintet out of Brooklyn, draws from the same folk well the Almanac Singers went to 70 years earlier. The sing-along string band even brings songbooks to its live shows so audience members can join in. Sincerity comes with being a little rough around the edges, and Spirit Family Reunion can jam, but stronger folk roots generally keep the band tighter than Akron/ Family or Megafaun. It's a free show, but feed the plastic goose that's passed around after the music starts at 6 p.m. —Andrew Ritchey
