Spamalot | Memorial Auditorium | Stage | Indy Week
This is a past event.

When: Feb. 12-17 2013
Price: $21-76

If you grew up quoting the knights who say NI! and you think that women slapping men in the face with fish is the height of comedy, you'll love Spamalot, the musical ripoff of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Like the original film, Spamalot irreverently parodies the legend of King Arthur, following the gallant king and his airheaded Knights of the Round Table as they set out on a quest for the mythical Holy Grail. But Spamalot is just as much a parody of Broadway tropes as it is a tribute to the Python film: Sir Galahad sings a generic love ballad called "The Song That Goes Like This," and the Lady of the Lake bemoans her lack of stage time in "Diva's Lament: Whatever Happened to My Part?" Original Python Eric Idle wrote the book and lyrics for the show, which won the Tony for Best Musical in 2005, so you know it's funny. This show opened Tuesday and continues nightly at 7:30 p.m. through Sunday, with additional matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. —Emma Miller
