Southern Culture on the Skids, Jennyanykind

When: Sat., Dec. 10, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $13-15

Southern Culture has been a part of the Triangle music culture so long they're like family. Slyly twisted and liquored-up, they're banana pudding-flinging relatives from the wrong side of the tracks. There's "Uncle Festus" Rick Miller on guitar, soaked with more twang than roadkill possum stew. Drummer Dave Hartman seems the quiet sort until he's wielding his martial weaponry. And Mary Huff, that smoky-voiced, red-haired drink of water on bass, is actually a plastic cup of Everclear. They're the A-Team of cowpunk surfabilly mayhem and smart-ass tomfoolery. The evening kicks off with a rare performance by roots rockers Jennyanykind, who reunited this summer for a split 7" release with the Moaners. —Chris Parker
