Re: “Getting a label deal is important, but it's not the only route to success

Point taken. Some "off the record" remarks leaked out and it now serves as a reminder of how difficult the music biz is. However, I want to point out that plenty of labels, small, medium, and large, make statements to bands they represent and don't follow through on said statements. Some musicians obviously would like to make music their living and there are plenty of people out there that want to help, but I feel this story is very one sided, which was not what I was expecting. Priming the story with words like "ingrate" and "ignoramus" and then back stepping at the end doesn't serve the point here. If anything it makes the individual writing the article look bad. So instead of making a point about the community and the hard work done by many individuals to support local music that rarely makes it out of this area, it seems the article has turned into an us vs. them manifesto. Like any endeavor, if someone drops the ball then it makes the job harder for all involved and some people may have expectations that are just not feasible. Maybe the real question, and point of this article, should be how can we all work together to promote a music scene we love instead of a "I'm going to use a bands falter to make a point." Thumbs down!
