Sons of Bill, Urban Soil

When: Fri., June 28, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $8-$14

Charlottesville, Va., band Sons of Bill comprises three of Bill Wilson's six kids—guitarists Sam and James, plus keyboardist and banjo player Abe—along with bassist Seth Green and drummer Todd Willons. Their songs land with the gritty grandeur of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard at their most rock-enthused, but the band opts for pounding rhythms, gusting organ and swaggering riffs, recalling mid-period My Morning Jacket with their shimmery power. Urban Soil opens. — Jordan Lawrence
