Re: “Vote! The INDY’s endorsements for races in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Carrboro

I disagree with the Indy’s decision to withhold an endorsement from Lee Storrow solely on the basis of his DUI. Yes it was an incredibly stupid, reckless mistake. But it was a single mistake, and one for which Storrow is deeply contrite. More importantly, it was an outlying bit of foolish behavior, and not part of a pattern of recklessness, as the Indy’s endorsement would suggest. Storrow is not a man in the midst of a downward spiral. He’s not perched at the edge of a wild bender. He’s a young man who should have known better, and he’s learned his lesson many times over. His mistake does not affect his ability to continue listening to and serving the citizens of Chapel Hill. Readers of the Indy, if you never did anything stupid in your 20s, please feel free to judge Storrow for this single mistake. But if, like me, you live in a glass house, I hope you’ll refrain from throwing stones. Please assess Storrow only on his record as a Council member.
