Slingshot Cash, Sarah Shook

When: Thu., July 5, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $5
Slingshot Cash frontman Jon Ackley has a reedy voice that's not quite a warble, but its knees are weak, its spirit burdened to the brink of buckling. After releasing an album while attending school in Madison, Wis., several years ago, Ackley moved the Triangle and re-formed the band. Their woozy roots blend backwoods twang, sardonic folk (witness their ode to the Wall Street crisis, "Too Big to Fail") and the youthful vigor and insouciance of rawk. Fans of Langhorne Slim will find a kindred talent. Breathy crooning opener Sarah Shook recalls the smoky, girl-next-door allure of Jolie Holland.
