Re: “Pope responds

Surprised? Pope is a pompous ass who whines like a silver-spooned brat whenever he feels his Grand-Poobah-of-the-Old-North-State delusion is under threat. Whether it's the Indy, New Yorker Magazine, or, any other venue that crawls under his razor thin skin, for that matter.

Through the fortune he was lucky enough to be born into, and, the wealth he continues to amass off of the backs of the unwitting poor and low-income demographic targeted by his business plan, Pope has been adept at bankrolling the systematic subversion of our state institutions for at least the past decade.

While cleverly exploiting the inequities of our tax laws to fuel his ideological ambitions through his so-called think tanks and other dark money investments, Pope must be completely liberated from reality if he thinks his legalese shrouded rebuttals fool anyone but himself.

Re: “Pope responds

Let's see, the Civitas Institute -- a 501(c)(3) founded by Pope -- is primarily funded by the Pope Foundation -- a private, family funded 501(c)(3). According to the Pope Foundation website, it gave Civitas $1.38 million during fiscal 2011-2012. That represents 25% of the its total grants to NC public policy organizations alone -- 15% of its total contributions for the year. So, as long as Pope can cleverly play the tax code game of the 1%, I guess he feels privileged enough to deceive us with his rhetoric. Vincent 'Chin' Gigante swore he never directed the day-to-day operations either.
