In 2009, Poison the Well guitarist Derek E. Miller and vocalist Alexis Krauss teamed up to release their first EP as Sleigh Bells. That self-titled EP and Sleigh Bells’ subsequent LP, 2010’s Treats, were explosive,+ energetic noise-pop gems. By design, they sounded hyper-compressed and fuzzed out, like your stereo had already blown out within five seconds of hitting Play. But as it goes, the mostly myopic band lost much of the buzz that gave its career its kickstart. In November, the band released Kid Kruschev, a seven-song “mini-LP” that’s significantly more mellow than the band’s earliest material. Opener “Blue Trash Mattress Fire” starts with gentle electronic notes before swerving into some crunchy guitar riffs, and later, “Florida Thunderstorm” sounds like a muddled, off-kilter pop song. If you show up craving a dose of early-aughts nostalgia, you’ll probably disappointed, but there’s still a good chance it’ll be plenty loud. —Allison Hussey
