Sleepy Hahas, Young Cardinals, The Pseudo Cowboys, Dr. Copter

When: Sun., Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $5
To produce Sleepy Hahas’ 2014 debut, Dull Days, this Buffalo quartet hired Paul Hamann, who engineered The Black Keys’ Attack & Release. Remember, that was the record where the Keys really broke from the gnarled, brutal blues thump. Like the Keys, Sleepy Hahas shellac layers of cheap organs and fuzzed-out guitars on top of its songs, but the veneer doesn’t hide a lack of quality riffs and hooks. Sleepy Hahas aim for the Keys’ sharpness, but mostly the results are just dull. —Patrick Wall
