Re: “Greater Raleigh tourism bureau wants GLBT visitors

This isn't so revolutionary. Over the years, Raleigh is a magnet for nearly all of eastern NC for weekend trips to go to "the bars", stay in a hotel, and of course have a meal. Does the convention and visitors bureau think people will come from far and wide for Raleigh? Maybe for a meeting at the new convention center, but really I don't see large numbers of gay tourists coming to Raleigh (I'm one of those targeted). For what?

Re: “Local 506 owner Glenn Boothe talks about the changing atmosphere of rock clubs

I'm surprised about the drop in attendence in NC. In Boston, where I'm from, there's been a huge increase in attendence at "indie" shows since the rise of the mp3. When I first came to Boston in 1999, you could get in to see almost any band the night of a show; now a show by any mid-major indie band (think New Pornographers, as referenced in the article above) will be sold out at least a week in advance. Some people may be staying home to listen to their mp3s, but overall the interweb has brought in a huge influx of new fans to see live music.
