Sister Act

When: May 14-19 2013
Price: $28-78

The plot of Sister Act reads like the synopsis of a bad TV movie. (Wait, it pretty much is a bad TV movie: It inevitably aired on ABC Family whenever I was home sick from school.) Deloris Van Cartier, played by Whoopi Goldberg in the film, is a lounge singer who witnesses a mob crime. Taken under protective custody by the police, she's hidden in a place where the mob will never find her—a convent. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, what a terrible plan! The loud-mouthed Deloris must don a habit and pretend to be a nun; hijinks ensue and friendships are formed, of course. The musical, featuring plenty of gospel music and singing and dancing, shows that even nuns just want to have fun. —Emma Miller
