Sinner Side Show Festival with the Tremors, Go Devils

When: Sun., Aug. 14, 8 p.m. 2011
Price: $12-15

Greensboro trio the Tremors play hot-blooded rockabilly in the spirit of early Reverend Horton Heat, blending classic reverb-twang with punk rock intensity. They're led by singer-guitarist Jimmy Tremor, who affects some of Elvis Presley's early vocal mannerisms along with a howling Jerry Lee Lewis yelp. The music crackles with energy, growling like a V-8 in breathless high-speed pursuit, cornering as though on rails. The band's irrepressible enthusiasm carries the day, aided by the occasional humorously cockeyed take, such as the H-bomb savior of "Atomic Jesus" and the infectiously carefree "Invasion of the Saucermen." Asheville openers the Go Devils hail from a similar musical neighborhood, only with a stronger punk/psychobilly attitude. If the music's unsatisfying, there's always the burlesque show that accompanies the bands, highlighted by blonde bombshell Rachel Riot, tattooed beauty Cherry Von Bomb and sexy pint-sized brunette Sinister Red. —Chris Parker
