Silversun Pickups, Mona, Goodbye Titan

When: Fri., Aug. 2, 6 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
Eleven months after buying the naming rights to the downtown Raleigh Amphitheater, Red Hat presents a concert to celebrate that near-anniversary and the company's move to its downtown offices. Unfortunately, while the show is free, the bill fails to stack up to the rest of this season's schedule, which otherwise has been the best-booked in the venue's three-year history. Los Angeles quartet Silversun Pickups bring slick, uninspired modern alt-rock that largely comes off like a less imaginative Muse. Opener Mona's anthemic aspirations come dosed with a heavy U2 influence, though they're performed with enough energy to add a bit of intrigue. The bill's lone local act offers a bit more promise: Reflecting the Shimmer Wall's splendor, Raleigh post-rock instrumentalists Goodbye Titan promise a unique opening set that'll feature local Celtic musician James Olin Oden sitting in for a song on tin whistle. —Spencer Griffith
