Silver Lining

When: Sept. 22-Oct. 1 2017
Price: $14-$18

Timing is everything. Months after the show was booked—and one week after eight Florida patients died in a nursing home in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma—the dark comedy Silver Lining focuses on five women in a British elder care facility who gradually realize that no one is coming to rescue them from a major flood. Sandi Toksvig's play, which premiered to mixed reviews in England in February and makes its U.S. debut here, addresses not only the substandard warehousing of the elderly but also the forced invisibility of women beyond a certain age in the theater. As the waters rise, the quintet reassembles its life skills, in what might just be a geriatric version of The Great Escape. The cast includes Freyja Helmer-Sindemark (The Greeks), Karen Morgan Williams (A Piece of My Heart), and Laura Bottomley. —Byron Woods
