Silent Art Auction

When: Thu., Aug. 12, 5-9 p.m. 2010

Good art can promote dialogue on a particular subject. Tonight the subject is eating disorders. This silent-auction art show includes 40 local artists in a female-dominated lineup, including Holly Fischer, Cathy Spargo and Donna Robertson, working in a variety of mediums. Instead of traditional statements, the artists will write accompanying pieces on why they've chosen to participate in the event. "Many artists may struggle themselves or know someone who has struggled," says Nancy Zucker, director of the Duke Center for Eating Disorders. "We are really hoping this event can impact the degree with which people can speak more freely about their histories." Gallery C, Studio 123 and Blue Bus Studio, among others, have donated works from their collections to display. The event benefits the Duke Center for Eating Disorders, and proceeds will go toward developing an online treatment program for patients in need. It runs from 5–9 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door, cash only. Visit and —Sarah Ewald
