Sidewalk Slam | Slim's Downtown | Clubs & Concerts | Indy Week

Sidewalk Slam

When: Sat., Aug. 19, 8 p.m.
Price: $8-$10

It'll be time for Hopscotch in less than a month, so consider Sidewalk Slam an opportunity to start training for those three days of skipping around downtown Raleigh. For one night, three Raleigh venues host a mini-festival with a respectable sampler of bands of different stripes from all over the Triangle. At Slim's, the metal powerhouse Solar Halos tops a bill that includes the similarly heavy Slime and Gown's triple-cello metal. Kings features a mix of hip-hop and R & B with Defacto Thezpian, and The Pour House boasts the rough-edged rock of Zack Mexico, Pie Face Girls, and Vacant Company. On top of a stacked evening of excellent music, a dollar from every (very cheap) ticket sold goes to benefit Planned Parenthood's Raleigh outpost. Everybody wins. —Allison Hussey
