Shondes, Beloved Binge, Brainbows

When: Sat., March 31, 10 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

With its mix of political punk-ish rock and riot-grrrl grit, The Shondes owe as much to Joe Strummer as Corin Tucker. "Are you ready to go?/ Are you ready to know me?" Louisa Rachel Solomon sings with blissful confidence, while the accompanying mix of handclaps, shout-along choruses, folk-dance violin and overdriven guitars lends a sort of Yiddish Ramones gusto. And The Shondes embrace their Jewish heritage, merging familiar sociopolitical protest band influences with an old-world klezmer flavor. With Durham activist duo Beloved Binge and the primitive basement punk of Brainbows. —Corbie Hill
