Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat

When: Sun., Aug. 15, 6:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $40.50-$60.50

On 100 Miles to Memphis, Sheryl Crow's seventh and most recent album, the tunes adopt a blue-eyed soul said to be informed by her birthplace's proximity to that titular home of R&B legends. It's an interesting about-face from the folk-leaning pop rock with which the Grammy-winning hitmaker has long been associated, though intriguing more to fans of Crow than fans of the genre. The cuts presented are hardly groundbreaking, but when Crow's coolly delivered vocals ride a funky Stax-style vibe adorned with brass and B3, it's not half bad. And hey, if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad, right? Colbie Caillat—a Crow-inspired songstress who co-authored the 2007 smash "Bubbly"—sets the stage with polished, breezy pop simplicity. —Spencer Griffith
