Shark Quest, Zen Frisbee

When: Fri., Nov. 8, 10 p.m. 2013
Price: $8
Catch two long-running, now sporadic Chapel Hill oddities in Durham. Shark Quest is a far-flung and charming instrumental rock outfit, its bright melodies tightening and unraveling with a delightful randomness. Spotless guitars duel and split, the mood turning from desert rock to bluesy bluster. There's always a through line, some fetching tune to keep you engaged. Zen Frisbee rambles manically with a feral edge similar to their '90s peers in Archers of Loaf, but these songs are shorter and are marked by an unrepentant twang. —Jordan Lawrence
