SFWA Southeast Reading Series

When: Thu., Sept. 17 2015

The Southeastern chapter of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America convenes for another installment of its new reading series, in collaboration with the FHI Story Lab and Duke's Rubenstein Library. The authors speak on a panel, moderated by Jaym Gates, on "Storytelling and Migration." Charlotte's Gail Z. Martin is the author of various epic, urban and steampunk fantasy novels, most recently War of Shadows. Alyssa Wong, a first-year MFA student in fiction at N.C. State, has already earned nominations for major genre awards, such as the Nebula. Pittsboro's Ursula Vernon won a Hugo for her wombat-based webcomic, Digger. Georgia's Delilah S. Dawson writes Y.A. fiction in an array of genres, and Durham's Monica Byrne is both a playwright and the author of acclaimed speculative-fiction novel The Girl in the Road, a book that dovetails perfectly with the theme of migration. If you're looking for great reads in regional spec-fic—or you're a burgeoning author looking to pick up some tricks of the trade—this is a good place to start.
