When dancer/choreographer Nicola Bullock started talking with a group of regional actors, musicians, wordsmiths and visual and performance artists about putting their own ideas of "sexy" on stage, she noticed two things. One, they were intrigued by it. Two, they were just a little bit uncomfortable with it. "It's a risk to do this work in public," she admits. "I asked them to feel sexy—and some have never felt sexy in their entire lives; some didn't feel it was necessary. Then female dancers particularly can have a hard time with people so often looking at them as sexy, but in this piece, I want that. How does that feel?" Tonight, Bullock and 10 other artists, including Big Remo from 9th Wonder, spoken word artist Elliot Axiom, dancers Sara Phoenix, Renay Aumiller and Ray Champaign, and visual artists Dave Alsobrooks and Khristian Weeks, consider (in Bullock's words) "how many different things sexy is, and how many contradictions it has in its manifestations." —Byron Woods
