Seth Walker Band

When: Wed., Oct. 16, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $12-15
Seth Walker possesses blue-eyed soul flair, allowing him to scale easily from swinging gospel to smoky piano jazz to understated acoustic blues. His baritone supplies seemingly effortless heat, like a pitcher who has thrown hard strikes all his life. Though he was trained as a cellist, Walker has a warm, supple style informed by his love for blues players such as T-Bone Walker and Snooks Eaglin. Like many with peerless technique, however, Walker's musical skills often outshine what's inside: He's not a bad songwriter, really, but the words and the tunes that carry them often feel secondary to the wrapping. —Chris Parker
