Serenity | Raleighwood Cinema Grill | Special Events | Indy Week
This is a past event.

When: Sun., June 27, 6 p.m. 2010
Price: $14

Despite being off the air for almost a decade now, Firefly, Joss Whedon's short-lived space Western TV show, has a cult following. Aptly named the Browncoats—after the characters who were part of the rebel army—these fans were the sole driving force in convincing Fox to produce the feature film Serenity. Now, once a year, Browncoats worldwide screen Serenity for charity. Raleigh's Browncoat faction, led by rebel leaders Jen Hilton and Jim Shires, will be raising money for Equality Now, which helps to end violence and discrimination against women, and Kids Need to Read, an organization that provides books to underfunded schools and libraries. There will be a raffle with official replicas, signed posters and gift baskets as prizes. Be sure to dress up—a costume contest takes place an hour before the 8 p.m. screening. Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner, the raffle and the costume contest. —Belem Destefani
