Action/Adventure, Drama

With bags under his eyes and blond ringlets, Nicolas Cage looks more like a sad-sack martyr than a knight in this toothless medieval melodrama about witch trials. After abandoning the Crusades (presented in a historically dubious CGI montage) Behar (Cage) and Felson (Hellboy's Ron Perlman) are charged with delivering a young girl (Claire Foy) to a monastery to rid her of purported demons that are inflicting the plague upon the populace. Extra mileage is wrung from a tedious last battle ripped straight from the pages of Revelations, but director Dominic Sena (Gone in 60 Seconds) can't give his bogus film any real gravity.
